Chaotic Fun at This Year's Pompey Panto

Photograph by Alan Bound

There’s nothing quite like a Pompey Panto to start the festive season in style.

Everybody’s favourite pantomime dame, Jack Edwards, is back at Kings Theatre, with special guests Shaun Williamson and James ‘Arg’ Argent – to bring more fun and magic to audiences in Southsea. This time, with the classic tale of Hook.

Shaun – best known as Barry from Eastenders – makes a brilliant baddy as Captain Hook, while TOWIE’s Arg takes on the role of Peter Pan.

When it comes to audience participation, these guys really know how to do it. Every man cowered in fear on gala night as Jack (as Mrs Smee) went hunting for a mate with a special ‘man cam’. As ever, Jack’s quick wit had the audience in fits of laughter throughout.

We enjoyed beautiful vocals from Georgia Deloise, as Wendy Jnr, which were nicely matched by Arg.

Clever projections on stage make you feel like you’re travelling with the cast to Neverland – and the delightful Elizabeth Rose, as Tinkerbell, sprinkles a little magic with her performance.

The show is simply bursting with chaotic fun, great gags, and of course, our favourite ‘he’s behind you’ sketch on a bench.

This year, though, we had the welcome addition of a spot of Barrioke!

Hook: The Further Adventures of Peter Pan is at Kings Theatre until New Year’s Eve.
