War Graves On Isle Of Wight To Be Tidied Thanks To Royal Marines Association

War graves across the Isle of Wight will be tidied up - thanks to the Royal Marines Association on the Isle of Wight.

It’s part of a “Tidy Up War Graves” campaign which will run for 75 days and see 458 graves in 45 cemeteries across the Island tidied up. Nine of them are Royal Marines.

The scheme will mark the 75th anniversary of the Royal Marine Association part of “The Royal Marines Charity”.

School children on the Isle of Wight are also being encouraged to produce one flower each to be displayed at Shanklin Chine on Remembrance Day.

The campaign starts on September 1 and will finish on Remembrance Sunday.

Royal Marines Association Branch Secretary Terry Goodwin said:

‘This is quite an ambitious project. It will require a lot of work over a long period of time. The work has to be carried out in a quiet and dignified way. More detail is shown below.

‘There are a number of ways we can get this job done. This will depend on the amount of work required at each war grave. We can do it individually or in small groups. So once we know the scale of the work required, we can decide on each individual case.’
