Duck Billed Splat-Apus: Public To Go Quackers For Annual Charity Event

The annual Aspire Duck Race will take place this Saturday (April 8) at the start of Newport's Shide cycle track — opposite National Tyres.

The race starts at 1.30pm, with parking available courtesy of the nearby Thompson's Trees.

A packed bill will see 1,100 plastic ducks race down the river, led by Dickie Duckie — the largest of the raft.

The winner of the event will receive £50, kindly donated by Horsler Lifts.

Raffle prizes include Easter hampers, Easter eggs donated by Asda and a £250 Red Funnel voucher — the travel company recently having named Aspire its charity of the year.

A spokesperson for Aspire said:

"Ducks have been selling well so we had to adopt another 100!

"They are £1 each available on the day or can be purchased online beforehand.

"Come and join us on the day for a fun couple of hours watching the ducks for a good cause."

All money raised will go to Aspire, based in Ryde, a charity which works tirelessly within the Island community to support those most vulnerable.
