CycleWight Celebrating 30 Years With Special Open Day Of Events

CycleWight, the Island's cycle advocacy group, is celebrating 30 years of serving the local community.

The group will mark the occasion by meeting and basing themselves at Merstone Station between 10am and 3pm on Saturday April 29.

That day will see a series of events held, aimed at raising awareness of the work the group does.

It is 20 years since the Cowes to Sandown route — the brainchild of CycleWight — opened, with the popular 'Red Squirrel' track now part of the National Cycle Network.

Highlights of the day include:

  • A 10% discount at Wight Cycle Hire, Newport, if mentioning CycleWight on the day.
  • Try out an electric bike courtesy of TAV cycles and Route Fifty7 at Merstone
  • Join in led rides from Cowes, Sandown, Ventnor, Shanklin, Newport to Merstone.
  • A ride from Merstone which will take people on some of the Red Squirrel Trail
  • Free bikes bells
  • Beryl Taster Sessions in various locations
