A group of talented young bellringers from the Isle of Wight are appealing for sponsorship as they prepare to represent the Island at a major national event this summer.
The Vectis Youth Bellringers will travel to Nottingham on 4 July to take part in the Ringing World National Youth Competition.
The event brings together the UK’s best young bellringers, with teams judged on their precision, coordination, and teamwork.
The Isle of Wight team comprises six young people aged between 10 and 15.
They are now seeking financial support from local businesses and residents to help cover travel costs, including ferry fees, minibus hire, and fuel, as well as accommodation and team clothing so they can proudly represent the Island.
Lexi Skeldon-Downer, who runs the team with her husband Kieran, said:
“This is a brilliant opportunity for these enthusiastic and talented young people to represent the Isle of Wight at the highest level.
"They have worked incredibly hard, giving up evenings and weekends to practise, and entering this competition is a real achievement in itself.
"Any support we receive will make a huge difference and help ensure that everyone can take part.”
Bellringing is a centuries-old tradition requiring physical coordination, focus, and teamwork.
For young people, it also builds confidence, discipline, and communication skills, while fostering strong friendships.
Thirteen-year-old team member Alfie Luff from Brighstone added:
“Bellringing has given me confidence and skills I wouldn’t have gained anywhere else.
"We’re all really excited to represent the Isle of Wight and to show what young ringers from the Island can do.
"It would mean a lot to have the support of the local community behind us.”
As part of their fundraising efforts, the team is also organising a raffle and is welcoming prize donations from local businesses and individuals.
