Dimbola Museum and Galleries has hosted another successful evening celebrating the Isle of Wight’s musical heritage with ‘Jimi and Friends (Part Two)’, inspired by the spirit of the 1969 and 1970 Isle of Wight Festivals.
Headliners Big Red & The Cava Boys were joined by special guest Dick Taylor, founding member of The Pretty Things and former Rolling Stones bassist, alongside performers Angelina Grimshaw and Jo Larcombe for a two-part seated show in the museum’s tearoom.
The first half of the night featured tracks by The Pretty Things, while the second focused on music linked to the iconic Isle of Wight Festival era.
Highlights included performances of Voodoo Child and Hey Joe, a solo rendition of Joan Baez’s There But For Fortune, Bob Dylan’s Tangled Up In Blue, and a full-ensemble encore of Like A Rolling Stone.
The sell-out style event also raised funds for Dimbola’s upcoming “Jimi Hendrix at Afton, 1970” exhibition, which opens on May 27 and is sponsored by John Giddings and Solo Music Agency.
The evening doubled as a pre-launch celebration, reinforcing Dimbola’s role in preserving the Island’s rich music history.
