Arthur Farley from Wootton, one of the world's great VR sailors, has done it again!
Racing against 27,934 other competitors, the 20 year-old wonderkid managed a remarkable third place overall in the 2,900 mile RORC transatlantic race, which set off from Lanzarote to the island of Grenada.
Finishing the race in 15 days, 5 hours and 20 minutes, Arthur was less than 12 minutes behind the winning boat in an epic and constantly fluctuating finish.
Arthur's remarkable story saw him diagnosed with a rare form of leukaemia shortly after he had become European Champion in 2022, with only 10 per cent of his white blood cells functioning correctly.
He said:
"My cancer is a chronic one meaning it will be life long and will need treatments along the way.
"However, I am determined to make sure it doesn’t choose my path in my sport and that I am able to achieve success at the highest level."
Virtual racing, which is rapidly gaining in global popularity, is just like the real thing in so much as you have plan your route based on current and future wind conditions.
Competitors subsequently plan to change sails to match wind conditions (regardless of the time of day).
