Isle Of Wight Jubilee Weekend Events — Where, When And How You Can Celebrate

The Isle of Wight will play host to a myriad of Platinum Jubilee events over the four-day Bank Holiday weekend between June 2 and 5.

Here is our comprehensive list of the what, where as we prepare for an extended period of national celebration.

Arreton

Event: Children's Jubilee Tea Party

Entry Price: Free

Details: Aspire Ryde is holding a children’s tea party at 2pm. Live music, children’s disco, children’s activities, stalls and games all day. Competition for the best queens crown, bring yours along to enter.

Brading

Event: Queen's Platinum Jubilee Celebration Day

Event: Jubilee Exhibition

Details: Exhibition will showcase the Queen's official visits to the Island.

 

Event: Beacon lighting

Date: Thursday 2nd
Time: 9.45pm
Venue: Cowes Esplanade - The Parade and bandstand

Details: Entertainment includes:

  • 7pm Medina Community Choir on the bandstand,
  • 8pm Mike Christie (singer) on the bandstand
  • 9.35pm Piper, Malcom McGregor will play "Diu Regnare" from the bandstand,
  • 9.40pm Bugler, Daryll Pitcher, will perform a unique bugle call, entitled 'Majesty' from the bandstand,
  • 9.45pm Beacon lighting by Col. Carron Snagge, on The Parade opposite the bandstand,
  • 10.15pm End of ceremony.

 

Event: Queen's Jubilee Family Workshop

Date: Wednesday 1st
Time: 10am to 12pm
Venue: Cowes Library

Details: A jubilee celebration for families to create a combined poem surrounded by artwork. To celebrate all that is unique and wonderful about the Island.

 

Event: Children's Jubilee Crafts

Date: Saturday 4th
Time: 10am to 12pm
Venue: Cowes Library

Details: Children's jubilee-themed craft session.

 

Event: 'Through the decades' quiz, music and games

Date: Saturday 4th
Time: 6pm onwards
Venue: IW Community Club

Details: The quiz takes place throughout the evening, while there will be music and games for kids and a raffle. The kitchen will be open until 9pm.

 

Event: Solent Platinum Jubilee Celebration

Date: Saturday August 6th
Time: 8am to 7pm
Venue: Solent, Cowes Harbour, Osborne Bay

Details: The celebration will include:

  • A Fleet Review of all boats moored in Cowes Moorings.
  • Youth elements off The Green and in the Shrape area.
  • RIBs off Norris Castle, yachts and motorboats anchored in Osborne Bay together with J70 and Sonar racing over Peel Bank.
  • A fly past by the Royal Air Squadron.
  • A party/music event at Cowes Yacht Haven in the afternoon and into the early evening.

 

Culver

Event: 1940s Tea Dance

Event: Trooping the Colour

Details: Watch Trooping the Colour at the town hall. Lighting of beacon on the Esplanade at 9.45pm.

 

Freshwater

Event: Freshwater Jubilee Celebrations and Fete

Event: Jubilee Celebrations

Details:

  • ‘Elizabeth in Wonderland’ – Roaming Theatre. A specially adapted performance where the Queen comes to tea! See if you can spot them around the town.
  • ‘Back to the Future – The next Generation’. Community dance performances taking us through the last 70 years, with a skateboard display too. Scheduled in Co-Op Square.
  • ‘Cheeky Monkey’. One half of the very popular duo comes to Ryde to showcase his circus skills. Co-Op Square 2pm, and finale in the High Street 3.15pm
  • Flag Making – Join the New Carnival Company at their base in 13b Union Road, to make your Jubilee Flags. 11am -3pm
  • ‘Art in the Garden’ – Arts and Crafts market at St Thomas Rest Garden.
  • ‘Community Mural’. Riboleau Street studio artists will be waiting for you at Minghella Square so you can input into the design of a community mural. Help them identify textures, silhouettes and shapes, which will then be incorporated into the final works later in the month.
  • Finale – Head to the High Street at 3pm, bring your flags and Jubilee dress ready to dance in the streets and enjoy Vectis Brass Band.
