December News from Lake South. By Cllr Paul Brading

I want to wish all my residents a very happy and safe Christmas, and I am sure like me you are looking forward to a much better 2021.

Council life has been extremely busy, with all meetings remaining 'Virtual'. A lot of my time has been focused on schools, where all the staff have performed brilliantly to keep pupils safe at school, and I want to thank them all very much for what they have done.

The issue relating to the land behind Premier Inn and KFC is now at the stage where we are waiting for the owner to comply with the conditions of the Enforcement actions, within the strict timescales. The situation is being constantly monitored and will continue to be.

There are two new planning applications I would encourage residents to have a look at and consider commenting on. One is for eight houses on Whitecross Lane, on the land just past the entrance to the business park and Aldi. The second is another application for a bungalow on the side of the Bridleway SS24 between Broadlea School and the Premier Inn. The original request was declined last year. If anyone is unsure how to load comments, please call me and I will be happy to talk you through the process.

Locally I continue to chase upon the meeting I have had with Island Roads to take actions necessary on the dangerous bend at the junction of James Avenue and Green Lane. Cars frequently approach this bend far too quickly, from all directions, and something needs to be done.

Other local issues I have been following up on are the continued monitoring of the safety of the Footbridge over Skew Bridge. Also, again issues raised by residents about the installation work of Wightfibre in their streets in Lake. There have been several other issues in Lake from parking to
broken letterboxes. To me helping with all these issues, and meeting residents, is what being a Ward Councillor is all about.

Lake Parish Council have continued to meet, and firstly I am pleased that the promised noticeboard for Merrie Gardens has now arrived. This will be a great help in sharing local news with all residents.

The council also discussed again the issue of their plans for the New Road toilets, an issue they have been discussing for nearly two years now. They have now finally, and correctly, agreed to consult with all residents properly on two different options, before making any decisions. I very much welcome this decision and encourage everyone to have their say when the consultation happens.
