Emergency service workers from across the Isle of Wight came together last month for the annual 999 Charity Golf Event — raising more than £1,500 for local charity The Wight Brainy Bunch.
Held on Friday 19 September at Ryde Golf Course, the event welcomed 44 golfers for a day of friendly competition and fundraising.
The tournament was open to Island emergency service personnel, members of the Armed Forces, and families affected by brain tumours — aiming to raise both awareness and vital funds for the charity.
Teams represented a wide range of services, including the Police, Fire Service, Prison Service, and NHS. Favourable weather made for a great afternoon of sport and camaraderie.
This year’s event was sponsored by Teehut Golf, who donated an impressive prize package. The Police team took the top spot, with the Fire Service finishing in a close second.
Event organiser Nickie Moreton shared her personal reason for supporting the cause:
“Following my brain tumour diagnosis in 2011, I felt completely alone and terrified.
"My single wish is that no one else should have to go through that experience without support.
"Since The Wight Brainy Bunch was founded, I’ve been committed to helping raise funds and awareness for others facing similar battles.”
Thanks to the generosity of everyone involved, the event raised £1,526, which will help support Island families affected by brain tumours through the work of The Wight Brainy Bunch.
A heartfelt thank you goes to all who took part, donated, or helped make the day possible.
