Welcome, my pretties, into the horrifying world of Halloween crafts and ghostly fun with Head Witch Sara Willow Whatley

Kids and crafting go together like a witch and her black cat – the perfect match. My children love crafting so much we have a dedicated crafting area where they can go and create, cut, stick, glitter and sew to their hearts content.

For this spooky ghost leaf Halloween craft, we firstly went for a blustery walk and gathered some dried leaves. We looked specifically for leaves with lobes, as the middle lobe becomes the ghost’s head and the other lobes act as the arms and body of the ghost.

Back at home after a warming hot chocolate we painted our leaves white and left them to dry. Then we simply drew on spooky ghost faces using a black felt tip pen on the central lobe. To display the leaf ghosts you could string, stick or lean them up. Add a few pumpkins to your display and you’re set for a spooky Halloween.

Other simple and effective Halloween crafts include:

Vampire bats cut out from black card or felt – add googly eyes for a hint of the ridiculous!

Toilet roll holder monsters – make a zombie, Frankenstein’s monster, witch, ghost, alien or whatever other hideous creation you fancy.

Halloween biscuits. Pick your favourite biscuits to make or buy and decorate them with icing, chocolate drops and other frightening decorations.

And of course, let’s not forget pumpkin carving! Once you have enjoyed your pumpkin picking trip in a farmer’s field somewhere nearby, then gather all the family for this fun activity to ward off evil spirits and the wandering soul of Stingy Jack, who tricked the Devil.

May your All Hallows’ Eve be full of frightful fun and ghoulish tricks, with a witches punch to drink, games that make you shriek, a cauldron of foul food to feast on and a house decorated like Count Dracula’s castle. Mwa ha ha!
