A long-standing wish came true this week at Newport's Orchard House Care Centre when one of the home’s residents, a former avid fisherman, enjoyed a heartfelt return to the seaside with a special fishing trip to East Cowes.

Despite now living with limited mobility, the resident had always spoken fondly of his fishing days prior to moving into care.

Thanks to the dedication of the Orchard House lifestyle and maintenance teams, that dream was brought to life in the most meaningful way.

Accompanied by maintenance team members Paul and Matt, the resident was able to spend a relaxing day by the water, rod in hand, soaking up the coastal views and the familiar rhythms of a favourite past-time.

To make the day even more special, he was gifted a fishing magazine to enjoy back at the home.

Katie Schlepp, Head of Lifestyle at Orchard House, said:

“We believe it’s incredibly important to connect our residents with the passions and memories that matter most to them.
"This trip wasn’t just about fishing — it was about independence, dignity, and joy.
"Seeing his face light up meant everything to us.”
