WOMAN FINED FOR LEAVING BIN BAGS OUT ILLEGALLY

A Carisbrooke woman who, despite repeated warnings, continued to leave bin bags on the pavement outside her home, has been fined.

As stated during the court hearing this week (19 August), since January 2009, Lynsay Spiers, from Carisbrooke High Street, Newport, Isle of Wight, persistently put rubbish out days before the weekly collection was due.

This is an offence under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and Ms Spiers was, in her absence, found guilty and fined £250 plus a total of £215 in costs at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court.

Isle of Wight Council Director of Environment and Neighbourhoods Stuart Love said "Despite contacting her on seven occasions, Ms Spiers continued to put rubbish outside her home and on the pavement which was then left there for days.

"Putting bin bags out on incorrect days makes an area look untidy as they could split, leaving waste over the pavement and roads. It is also unfair on all the other residents and visitors who want the area to remain clean and tidy".

The case was heard at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on Tuesday 18 August. Ms Spiers was unrepresented.
