WITNESS APPEAL AFTER CHILD IN COLLISION

Police are appealing for witnesses after a child was injured in a road traffic collision in Sandown.

The 12-year-old girl was walking across Culver Parade, the main road on the seafront, at approximately 2.45pm on Sunday, August 9, 2009 when she was involved in a collision with a car.

The girl from Sandown, Isle of Wight received minor injuries, and did not need treatment in hospital.

The car involved in the collision is described as a blue coloured people carrier style vehicle with 08 number plates.

It is believed the man seen driving the vehicle stopped briefly after the collision before leaving the scene.

Police are appealing for the driver, and any witnesses who were near Culver Parade in Sandown on Sunday afternoon, to come forward.

Officers know the area was busy with people at the time of the collision because of a helicopter and lifeboat display that was taking place offshore nearby.
