The Isle of Wight Food Bank

It may be hard to believe but every day parents on the Isle of Wight are skipping meals to feed their children and many are being forced to choose between paying rent and eating. The fact is that the Isle of Wight is the 8th most deprived district in the South East. The good news is that the Isle of Wight Foodbank provides emergency food and support to local people in crisis. This is achieved through public donations either at collection points or supermarket collections. Food is then sorted and sent to distribution centres. Frontline care professionals such as health visitors then give foodbank vouchers to people in crisis and these can be exchanged for three days’ worth of food at volunteer-staffed distribution centres. The Isle of Wight Foodbank is currently looking for more volunteers. If you can help, please call 01983 292040. Alternatively, if you need a voucher, you can contact the same number and you will be put in touch with a local professional who can help.
