Soundbeam (the invisible keyboard in space), a vibroacaustic soundbox and the visual magic of Arkaos fascinated crowds at the Bestival.
Independent Arts Soundbeam practitioner, Leigh Hofmann , ran the equipment for 2 hours each day so that people could experience the magic for themselves. Whilst the Soundbeam provides an invisible beam which generates sound when broken, Arkaos flashes pictures onto a screen as the beam is broken.
By sitting or standing on the vibroacoustic soundbox, the music you are making can be felt as vibrations. Pads triggered by the hands or feet provides additional sound that can also be felt.
It wasn’t just the children who wanted to experience the magic – it was mostly adults! Ian Boyd from Island Trust 2000 (picture provided) thoroughly enjoyed the experience!
Independent Arts was the first to bring Soundbeam to the Island and we are now leading the way with the vibroacoustics and Arkaos. This equipment is designed for and generally used with people who have special needs and particularly those who have physical problems and cannot produce music any other way. The Soundbeam is so sensitive it can be triggered with the blink of an eye.
