SCHOOL STRUCTURE DECIDED

The Isle of Wight Council has adopted a new two-tier school structure.

Members met on the 19 March at County Hall in Newport. The existing primary, middle and high school set-up will be replaced by a system of primary and secondary schools.  The final details were submitted by Leader Cllr David Pugh, in a last minute addition that was criticised by groups supporting the continuation of the three-tier system.  The authority claims the decision means a larger number of primary schools will now be retained, although it has admitted there will still be some closures.  No major changes will be brought in until at least September 2010.
