Construction and restoration work is continuing at Ryde Cemetery.
The restoration of the old Mortuary Chapel and archway in West Street, re-building some of the boundary walls, restoring selected headstones and installing new railings and gates in Pellhurst Road are among the projects being carried out. A heritage learning centre will also be built in the existing North Chapel. The Heritage Lottery Fund has provided nearly £500,000 towards the project. The Isle of Wight Council, Friends of Ryde Cemetery and Ryde Social Heritage Group are also involved in the restoration and have been providing historical information, mapping and volunteering.
