REFURBISHED FRESHWATER CONVENCIENCES TO RE-OPEN

The latest set of public toilets to be given a complete refurbishment under an Isle of Wight Council scheme is officially opened on Wednesday 26 August.

The conveniences in Moa Place in Freshwater have been given a £100,000 refurbishment and have also been installed with 'green' technology and systems.

New features include low energy lighting that is activated by motion sensors and the building also makes full use of natural light and ventilation. Water usage will also be minimised. Public artwork that has been designed in conjunction with Freshwater Parish Council, features on the wall tiles and new plants will soon be planted outside the building.

The council began a refurbishment scheme over two years ago and has already completed upgrades in Brading, Wootton, Ventnor, Yaverland, Ryde and Newport. Facilities in Shanklin and Ryde are due to be refurbished in the ongoing programme.

Gill Kennett, Freshwater Parish Council Chairman said "I am really pleased to see how well the newly refurbished toilets have been rebuilt to match the original design which complemented the architecture of Moa Place.

"The Parish Council are very pleased with the work that has been carried out and know that these new facilities will be much appreciated by the community"

The new facilities will be officially opened at 1300 on Wednesday 26 August.
