POLICE PREPARE FOR PEACEFUL DEMONSTRATION ON THE ISLE OF WIGHT

Hampshire Constabulary is working with protestors to maintain a safe and peaceful demonstration in Newport, Isle of Wight this evening (Friday, July 24) over the closure of a Vestas Blades wind turbine blade factory.

Police are speaking regularly with organisers who are acting sensibly and responsibly in preparing for a lawful protest rally in St. Thomas’s Square, Newport town centre and outside the Vestas Blades site at Monks Brook.

Isle of Wight-based officers, who understand the importance of this issue to the community, will be on duty in St. Thomas’s Square to give advice when appropriate to ensure public safety during the demonstration and any march through Newport town centre.

There have been no reported problems in relation to the ongoing protests at the Vestas Blades site today (Friday, July 24).
