The eighth annual Pickled Onion Wars, at The Woodvale Hotel in Gurnard, have raised nearly £5000 in aid of the Children’s Liver Disease Foundation.

On 25 January, 37 contestants brought along their own pickled onion creations.  They were taste-tested and given marks out of 10.

Co-organised by Terry Ashdown, the choice of charity is inspired by his 6-year-old son Daniel who has a rare liver condition.  Daniel’s 4-year-old sister Lucy won the overall prize, with her dyed pink Princess Pickles.  Terry said, “It went so well, the place was full to the brim with people that had come along for a good time and to show their support. We all feel it’s important to raise funds for CLDF so that they can go on to support families like us in the future. It’s vital that they can continue to fund research into childhood liver disease.”
