OLYMPIC FLAG SAILS ROUND THE NEEDLES

As the Beijing Olympics draw to a close on Sunday, the London 2012 Olympic Handover Flag will be flying off the Isle of Wight. It marks the handing over of the Olympic baton to the next country, to host the event.

A huge spinnaker bearing the London 2012 logo will sail past the Needles, hoisted by the young crew of Paddiywack, (a 32ft Seaquest yacht).  They’ll finish their journey in Cowes, where they will be greeted by the Isle of Wight Council’s Chairman and young people belonging to the Island’s Talented and Gifted Sports Programme who are hoping to represent the Island at the International Island Games to be held on the Isle of Wight in 2011.
