The Environment Agency’s ploughing £85 million into reducing the risk of flood and coastal erosion in southern England in the next financial year, but none of the planned projects will be carried out on the Isle of Wight.
The investment includes funds to build new and maintain existing river and coastal defence schemes, develop flood forecasting technologies and to further raise awareness of flood risk. The Environment Agency’s welcomed increasing Government spending on flood and coastal defences, but has warned that further funds must be found in order to reduce risk and protect against rising sea levels and the more intense rainstorms that will come with climate change.
