As snow turned to rain across the Isle of Wight on Monday, flooding caused overnight chaos.
Heavy rainfall, high winds and high tides combined to cause problems for those living near the River Yar, which burst its banks at Langridge and Newchurch. More homes were flooded on the Strand at Ryde and in Horringford and Whitwell.
The IW Fire and Rescue Service received around 100 calls, reporting flooded highways, requesting sandbags or reporting other weather-related incidents. A number of of roads were closed and Chale Street in Chale remained closed on Tuesday, as trees in danger of falling were assessed. In Newport, cars were reportedly stranded when the Medina burst its banks near Matalan and Ryde Canoe Lake had to be pumped out to prevent it overflowing.
