LOST WOOD SHIP IN SOUTHAMPTON

The ship that shed 1500 tonnes of sawn timber into the English Channel is now alongside at Southampton's Western Docks.  It was anchored off the Isle of Wight for a time, yesterday.

Coastguards were alerted to the Sinegorsk when it sailed past Newhaven yesterday morning. It had been heading to Alexandria in Egypt, with 25 crew on board, but was diverted to Portsmouth because it was listing.  En-route, in bad weather and rough seas, the 1991-built 137m vessel lost bundles of wood.  Coastguards are watching the progress of the lost cargo and believe it will wash ashore on the Kent coast later this week.
