Fairest Isle Festival Bringing Classical Celebration To Newport, Ryde And Ventnor

A three-day festival focusing on music from the 16th to 18th century will take place across Newport, Ventnor and Ryde from this evening (Friday).

The Fairest Isle Festival will be headlined by one of Europe's most popular early music acts, the wild Scandinavian Alehouse Boys, and dive into the sublime and wonderfully funky world of Henry Purcell in a raucous 17th-century tavern setting.

They will be involved with the lively ‘Come & Sing’ Vivaldi Gloria and form the instrumental core of Purcell's 'Dido & Aeneas,' led by Artistic Director, Robert Hollingworth.

The festival begins with a programme of music from the multi-virtuosic recorder consort Palisander, dubbed “Early Music’s very own Spice Girls”.

The weekend will include a series of workshops such as 'Learn to Sing a Sea Shanty’, and 'Come and Sing' baroque choral works – a melody-filled experience for both visitors and islanders alike.

In addition, there will be festival talks and tours, exploring local heritage and cultural landmarks, and in collaboration with the Isle of Wight Music Hub, the Festival presents educational workshops and masterclasses in schools around the Island.

The event is taking place from May 10-12, you can find further details via the official website.
