An appeal’s been launched to raise funds for a new offshore lifeboat for Bembridge.

Its mainly volunteer crew members are hoping for a Tyne class boat with a working speed of only 17.5 knots.  It must be able to reach casualties within 10 miles of the station in just half an hour and have a range of 100 miles.  It will cost £2.5 million, but with part-funding by the RNLI, the appeal must collect £1 million.  To donate call, 0845 650 3999 and quote 'BLSA', visit rnli.org.uk/bembridgeappeal or send a donation to RNLI Bembridge Appeal, Admail 4109, Bembridge, PO35 5ZS.
