An appeal’s been launched to raise funds for a new offshore lifeboat for Bembridge.
Its mainly volunteer crew members are hoping for a Tyne class boat with a working speed of only 17.5 knots. It must be able to reach casualties within 10 miles of the station in just half an hour and have a range of 100 miles. It will cost £2.5 million, but with part-funding by the RNLI, the appeal must collect £1 million.
