Isle of Wight residents are being asked to dig deep and support breast and testicular cancer charities next month by attending a fundraising ball.
Organisers of The ‘Knobs and Knockers’ charity ball at Cowes Yacht Haven are urging residents to help the charity by buying tickets and coming along to the action-packed evening.
The night will feature live entertainment from two different bands, as well as a three-course meal, disco, auction and raffle.
Mary Hodder, who arranges the event, along with her colleagues from Cowes Primary School, said: “The idea first came about three years ago when we realised there were few black tie events that were open to the general public. We’ve all known people who have been affected by either breast or testicular cancer and took it upon ourselves to do something to raise money."
A number of businesses have already backed the event, with Posh Frocks donating dresses for organisers, Cowes Yacht Haven helping with organisation and local bands, The Monitors and The Lonesome Valley Boys, performing for free.
Other kind-hearted people and businesses who have backed the event include Isle of Wight Pearl, Baytree Florist, All About Catering, Charlotte’s Academy, Luke Steen and Helen Davenport.
The event has been running for three years and has previously raised £12,000 but organisers hope to smash their record in 2010 as it is being held at Cowes Yacht Haven’s Events Centre, a bigger venue than in previous years.
The ball will run from 7pm to 1am on Saturday, October 9. Tickets are £40 each and can be bought by calling Sandra or Mary on 07795 551536.
