Just a year and a half after she took up running, an Island woman’s preparing to pound the streets in London’s annual Flora Marathon.
Katherine Spencer’s 26-mile challenge is in aid of the Anthony Nolan Trust. She has already completed the route once, in just 4hrs 23mins, raising just over £3000. The 32 year old from Cowes began running in October 2006 – three months after the death of her elder brother, Daniel. He was a registered donor with the Anthony Nolan Trust and gave the gift of life to a mum of two, who now lives in remission from leukaemia. Eighteen months later, Daniel contracted a short and unexpected illness and died aged 32 years old. Katherine Spencer’s second marathon, on 13 April 2008, will be preceded by some fundraising events. She is planning to organised a sponsored event and a 70s disco. If you’d like to donate, or to find out more, visit www.justgiving.com/kathyspencer.
