Two Islanders were among the 35,000 people taking on the Flora London Marathon.  How did they do?

On 13 April, Newport runner Chris Grafton (below) completed the 26 mile Flora London marathon in 4 hours 43 minutes.  The 44 year old Hedge Fund Analyst has raised £1000 for the spinal cord injury charity Aspire.  He was in a team of 13 people from all across the UK, running for Aspire and among 35,000 people who took part in this year’s race.

Meanwhile, Katherine Spencer completed her run in 4 hours 30 minutes.  The 32 year old from Cowes began running in October 2006 – three months after the death of her elder brother, Daniel. He was a registered donor with the Anthony Nolan Trust and gave the gift of life to a mum of two, who now lives in remission from leukaemia. Eighteen months later, Daniel contracted a short and unexpected illness and died aged 32 years old.
