ISLAND INSULATION SCHEME GOES LIVE

The Island Insulation scheme created by Isle of Wight Council and E.ON is now up and running, with an information hotline and website launched.

Home owners and those in private rented accommodation can now obtain a no obligation survey for cavity wall and loft insulation by contacting E.ON on 0800 015 2475, a free phone number, or through the Island Insulation website.

An un-insulated home can lose up to 33% of its heat through the walls and 25% through the loft. Both loft and cavity wall insulation can be applied for under the scheme, and better insulation can help reduce both CO2 emissions and energy bills.

Anyone over the age of 70 who owns their own home or rents from a private landlord is entitled to free cavity wall and loft insulation. People on certain benefits are also entitled to free insulation; residents should contact E.ON to see if they are eligible. Isle of Wight residents not eligible for free insulation will be able to apply for the discounted offer from as little as £150 for cavity wall insulation and £185 for loft insulation.

John Fawcitt, Energy Efficiency Manager at E.ON said: "We are delighted to be working with the Isle of Wight Council to offer residents free or low-cost cavity and loft insulation. There are clear benefits in installing basic energy efficiency measures, which can help people save up to £420 on the cost of heating their homes."
