IS IT A BIRD....IT'S A GEOLOGICAL ARIEL SURVEY

The British Geological Survey’s carrying out an airborne geological survey of the Isle of Wight, over three weeks. A specialist plane will fly at low levels, in lines 200 metres apart.

The distinctive De Havilland with a distinctive red-striped tail-plane will fly as low as 56m (185ft), surveying rock types and structures, land quality, soil type and condition using an advanced electromagnetic system.  Isle of Wight Council cabinet member Cllr George Brown said, "The work…[will] provide valuable information particularly useful for the assessment of ground stability and coastal erosion."
