INVESTIGATION CONTINUES INTO FIRE IN VENTNOR

Police are renewing an appeal for information after a fire was reported near a bandstand in Park Avenue, Ventnor, Isle of Wight.

Officers were called to the area shortly before 11.00pm on Wednesday, August 12, 2009.

Sergeant Richard Stapleton of the South Wight Safer Neighbourhoods Team said: “Further enquiries at the scene have established there is no damage to the main bandstand, but there is evidence of a fire affecting the structure’s concrete base.

“Ventnor Carnival took place last Wednesday night so we know the town was busy with crowds of residents and visitors who enjoyed the evening safely and responsibly. I’m appealing to anyone who may have noticed any suspicious people or activity in the area of Park Avenue between 10.00pm and 11.00pm to contact police.

“Dealing with allegations of anti-social behaviour is Hampshire Constabulary’s top priority this summer, and we would encourage people to continue reporting issues that are affecting their community.”
