Further to our report on 16th June regarding the hit and run incident on the B3399 middle road towards Freshwater at Shalcombe at approximately 1.00pm on Thursday, June 11, 2009, we have been contacted by one of the injured boys parents.
The injured boys were part of a group of school children from Sussex completing part of their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award.
Far from being minor injuries, Sam Preutz has 2 broken knees and a lacerated forearm and will be out of action with fully braced and locked rigid legs for a number of months.
This will have an effect on his GCSE's as he unable to attend school for the foreseeable future. A second boy has a broken leg and a third a badly cut hand.
Sam’s father, David Preutz, hopes that his more accurate description of the boys activities will urge people to respond to the appeal for information about the vehicle involved in the hit and run incident. The black BMW, believed to be a 5 series saloon registered between 1989 and 1992, was last seen in the Broad Lane area of Shalcombe.
PC Clive Richardson, of the roads policing unit, has called for anyone with knowledge of the owner of a metallic black BMW, which has recently received damage, to contact them on 101 or 0845 045 45 45, or call the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.
