HUGE PRICE HIKE FOR "NEW" ISLAND PARKING PERMIT

A £500 annual parking permit will go on sale from April.  But unlike the £75 permit that it is replacing, it will not be valid in short stay and shopper car parks.

The 'Long Stay Parking Permit' will be sold for 3, 6 or 12 monthly periods. The cost will be £135, £260 or £500 respectively.  It replaces the Island Residents Permit (IRP) and the Island Business Permits (IBP).  Existing permits will be honoured. It is the latest controversial move in the Isle of Wight Council’s budget setting for 2010/11.  Plans to introduce a £200 permit were scrapped, it was claimed to provide a financial cushion for changes to adult social care.
