As the recession continues to grip the country, the Isle of Wight Council's housing team is reminding residents that support is available for those in financial difficulty.
It is making people, who may not have previously had a need for housing support, aware of the services available. The team provides free and impartial housing advice and in some cases financial support, to residents struggling with rent or mortgage payments.
It assists people access impartial debt advice as well as the Government's new mortgage rescue scheme. It can also help families find alternative accommodation if required.
Cllr Dawn Cousins, Isle of Wight Council Cabinet Member responsible for Housing said: "During these difficult financial times we are aware that households that may have had secure housing and employment in the past
may now be facing problems and not be aware of the help the council's housing team can offer.
"We would encourage people to get in touch with us at the earliest opportunity so that we can offer advice and assistance that may prevent them from becoming homeless."
