£27,000 is already in the bank, thanks to the fundraising efforts of Island firefighters planning to cycle between Newport and Rome later this year.
The Square to Square Charity Cycle Challenge 2008 will see the team cycling 1,400 miles in 14 days, between St Thomas' Square and St Peter's Square in The Vatican City. They’re raising funds for the Wessex Cancer Trust, helping cancer patients at St Mary's Hospital. They had been hoping to collect £25,000 but they have already surpassed that after just eight months of fundraising. They’ve now raised their goal to £40,000.
