FUN FOR ALL AT FAMILY LEARNING FESTIVAL

A host of events are being organized on the Island as part of the National Family Learning Festival which takes place between Saturday 17 October and Sunday 31 October 2009.

The Isle of Wight Council Family Learning Team will be joining forces with Southampton City Council's Family Learning Team to work with Red Funnel to carry out family story telling sessions on some cross Solent car ferries on Friday 23 October and Friday 30 October. Families will receive goodie bags and details of where they can learn together as a family.

Newport Roman Villa and the Museum of Island History will also be holding a free entry day on Saturday 24th October. At the Roman Villa the council's heritage education team will be leading a discovery session looking at letters from Roman soldiers based near Hadrian's Wall. Families can learn a little Latin and write their own Roman postcard using authentic materials.

The Island's libraries will launch 'Share Boxes' during the festival, these contain resources for families to take part in joint learning exercises such as games and colouring activities. A Share Network day will be held at Carisbrooke Castle on Thursday 22 October. Trained Share Tutors will work with representatives from the Island's libraries and museums to create links between Share groups and Island organisations.
