Ryde fire station will be crewed full-time during the working week, from today.
According to the Isle of Wight Council, the move is part of the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service 'Fire Modernisation' Project and will improve efficiency. A 'wholetime day crew' will be on hand from Monday until Friday, during work hours. On evenings and weekends, the station will be crewed by retained fire fighters. The project will also see the number of full time fire-fighters increased, as well as a new fire station in Ventnor and a new combined fire station and headquarters in Newport.
