At last … the Bembridge bus is here! The long wait for a new community minibus for Bembridge is over, with the arrival of a shiny new Iveco Irisbus.
It was funded by thousands of local phone votes and the joint Big Lottery Fund and ITV project, People’s Millions.
The 17-seater, complete with lift and access equipment, is to be formally launched on Sunday afternoon, at the Methodist Church in Foreland Road. It will be blessed by ministers representing the three Bembridge churches. Operator Bembridge Friendship Circle won more than £67,000, to secure a replacement for its 20 year old, unreliable bus. That bus wasn’t even new when it was donated to the community group!
