FLOWERS BLOOM FOR GARDEN'S BIRTHDAY

Irises 'Ruffled Velvet’, 'Teal Velvet' and 'Bel Azure' and the rose 'Canary Bird' are all blooming in a walled garden at Carisbrooke Castle, as the garden marks its first birthday.

Edwardian-inspired, in 1913 it became the ‘privy’ garden of Queen Victoria’s daughter Princess Beatrice. She was Governor of the Isle of Wight, from 1896 until her death in 1944. From 1913 the garden became her private garden. English Heritage is running a buy-one-get-one free ticket promotion, to celebrate. The promotion runs from today for one week.
