A cordon had to be placed around the scene of a major incident at Whippingham, on Thursday, when welding apparatus (including three potentially explosive gas cylinders) caught fire.
Residents, including those at a mobile home park, were told either to remain in their homes or asked not to return to them. One couple spent the night in a hotel and another in a special rest centre, at the Riverside Centre in Newport. Folly Road was reopened at 10am on Friday morning. But a cordon remained at Padmore Farm.
