Consultation over the future of education on the Isle of Wight will continue, after a motion to force the IW Council to reconsider its plans was defeated, on Wednesday night. Members of the full council met to consider a motion proposed by Cllr Patrick Joyce.
Had it been passed, it would have required the authority to totally rethink plans for three options (including the scrapping of the 3 tier system) and proposals to close between 23 and 48 primary schools. Instead, councillors voted by 26 to 17 in favour of rejecting the motion, instead carrying on with the consultation process which officially ends on Friday. After that, a decision is expected to be made on 19 March, before further consultation on the future of those primary schools currently earmarked for closure.
