ECO EVENTS FOR SCHOOLS

Island schools are being urged to attend an event, which will showcase Northwood primary school and others who have achieved excellent results in environmental awareness and actions, to encourage others to ‘go green’.

The Eco-Event will take place on Thursday 12th November at Northwood School from 3pm until 5pm.

To date 37 Island schools have joined the international Ecoschools initiative, with four achieving the highest award - the coverted Green Flag.

As part of this event there will be the presentation of the national awards for sustainable travel to school by the chair of the national sustainable travel organisation, Modeshift. In their first year of entering fourteen Island schools, ranging from primaries and middle schools to a tuition centre, a pupil referral unit and a special school, have achieved bronze ‘sustainable’ level awards. Godshill Primary achieved a silver ‘higher standards’ award and has been shortlisted for ‘National Travel School of the Year’ to be awarded at the end of November.

A free crèche and buffet is to be provided. To book a place school staff and governors should call the Footprint Trust on (01983) 82-22-82.
