American discus champion Stephanie Brown Trafton with Island discus throwers
American discus champion Stephanie Brown Trafton took time out from visiting family on the Isle of Wight to coach five of the Island's most promising discus throwers today.
Stephanie was asked by the Isle of Wight Athletic Club and Isle of Wight Council if she would support a coaching session aimed at the Island's very best talented athletes. She accepted and led a morning coaching programme that included both high quality technical practises along with her personal advice on preparing for and dealing with top quality competitions.
Stephanie presented each of the athletes with a signed photo and showed the group her gold medal from the Beijing Olympic games.
12 year old Kieran Phillips who took part in the session said: "It was amazing to meet Stephanie, a lady with so much talent, and have the opportunity to train with her. I hope to compete in the World Island Youth Games in the future and the tips Stephanie gave me will certainly help me get closer to achieving my future goals. To hold her Olympic Gold Medal was fantastic."
The following Isle of Wight Athletes took part in the unique training session: Kieran Phillips, Nicholas Percy, Eleanor Mitchell, Lizzie Lovegrove and Gary Newton.
