COUNCIL SEEKS V.I.P FAMILY TO OPEN NEW CHILDREN CENTRE

Isle of Wight Council's new Children Centre in Sandown will be officially opened next month - and the council is seeking a family to cut the ribbon.

The state of the art facility will be known as 'The Bays Children Centre' and is located opposite Sandown High School and next to Sandham Middle School.

To celebrate the new centre, an opening ceremony will take place at 1200 on Friday 18 September and Island parents and their child or children are being asked to draw picture on the theme of family. The family whose picture is chosen as the winner will be invited to officially open the centre.

Families should send their pictures to Kathy Marriott, Children's Centre and Extended Schools Commissioner, Isle of Wight Council Education Centre, Thompson House, Sandy Lane, Newport, Isle of Wight, PO30 3NA.

Entries should also provide full names and address of the family and a contact number or email.

The closing date is 1700 on 4 September and the winning family will be chosen and invited to officially open the new centre on 18 September at 1200.

The building is now the seventh council-owned children's centre on the Isle of Wight, with other centres located in Ryde, Ventnor, Shanklin, Cowes, Carisbrooke and Newport.

Children's Centres, which aim to provide support for families with children under the age of 5, are a key national government initiative to deliver better outcomes for children and families.
