A walk between Shanklin and Ventnor will help mark the launch of a new book that commemorates the Isle of Wight honeymoon of composer Sir Edward Elgar.
The owner of the house where the newly weds stayed is joining forces with author Kevin Allen and the Elgar Society, on 14 September. They’ll walk along the Landslip, from Shanklin Railway Station (just after midday) to Ventnor’s Alexandra Gardens. This Charming Island, marking Edward and Alice Elgar's honeymoon in 1889, will be launched when they get there. During their stay, the Elgars went fishing and walking and they took a horse-drawn coach to Freshwater. Copies of the book will be at the Ventnor Heritage Museum.
