To mark the 2009 bicentenary of the birth of Charles Darwin and the 150th anniversary of the publication of ‘On the Origin of Species’ a project is getting underway at Brading Roman Villa.
Evolution Megalab is asking Islanders to survey banded snails. You can look for them at the historic site, this half term. Staff will be handing out free snail guides and record sheets. Darwin’s son William visited Brading Villa in 1880, during early excavations, to study the effect of earthworms on the Roman remains. His findings were printed in 1881 and a copy will be on display at the Villa during the holidays.
