BOOKS2LOVE, A CHARITY SHOP WITH A DIFFERENCE!

Books2Love opening on 31st October at 53 Pyle Street, Newport (next to Abbey National).

It is a Company primarily set up for all profits to support over 50 orphanages and other projects under the care of Love Russia, a registered charity. An exhibition about the work of Love Russia is on display. In keeping with the “Helping Islanders” ethos, local authors Bob and Carol Bridgestock, will be signing their new book ‘Deadly Focus’, a proportion of whose book-sales go to the Earl Mountbatten Hospice.

Although its primary trade is a second-hand bookshop, (donations of any books in saleable condition are gratefully received) Books2Love also sells handmade cards, bookmarks and pictures produced by local Island artists and offers hot drinks, muffins, cookies and of course chocolate, to enhance the ambience of the bookshop experience! A book search facility is available for that special book you've been looking for and Internet book-sales.

The special children’s corner is designed to encourage young children to enjoy books, with organic banana bear cookies on sale to help things along!

All volunteers are welcome but young people aged 16-24 are especially encouraged to volunteer. A full training package will be offered covering skills such as retail, all aspects of business and enterprise, Internet, e-bay bidding, and coffee shop sales, to enable them to gain some experience for entering the job market.

In addition, after Christmas they hope to offer children’s storytelling, and Inspiring Writing Workshops, specifically to encourage unpublished writers, with competitions for adults and children.
