A plant that very rarely flowers outside of its native country has bloomed on the Island.
Ventnor Botanic Gardens are unveiling the King Protea flower, the national flower of South Africa which is notoriously difficult to grow. It has taken six months to open and is six inches across. It is the first time it has been recorded flowering outdoors on the Isle of Wight.
